Are Paper Straws Terrible For The Environment?

Did You Know

Paper straws are actually terrible for the environment, and in this video, we'll show you why. Listen to learn more about the negative impact of paper straws on the environment.

Fancy paper things that you get from the coffee shop are not actually much better for the planet than plastic straws. Sources indicate that the production of paper is more energy and water-intensive than plastic. Paper straws are not durable. They may not even last until you finish the drink. They get soggy very quickly, and this makes it very difficult to be reused. Though they are widely used as a disposable product, they can be reused a few times as long as they are maintained properly. Though paper is technically recyclable, paper straws may not be fit for it. This is because food contaminated products are usually rejected for recycling. Since the straws absorb the liquid very quickly, they may become unfit for recycling. Plastic straws, too cannot be recycled if they are contaminated. But, even if they are thoroughly cleaned before recycling, they may still not be accepted.
